Guide to loan services.
In the Information Centre Vellamo, loans can be made with the information centre library card, KYYTI library card and KyUAS library card. The use of KYYTI library card requires registration in KYMI database. The Information Centre also provides interlibrary loan services which will be charged as stated in the price list.
Library Card
The information Centre library card can be issued to a person who signs up for registration. For registration purposes, the patron must give the inquired information and prove his/her indentity. By signing the registration form the patron agrees to the terms of use.
The Information Centre must be immediately informed about all changes in personal and contact details. The library card is issued free of charge.
Loan Periods
The loan period is 28 days, 14 days 1 day or 0 days depending on the type of material.
The loan period of books, magazines and other periodicals and CD-ROM discs is 28 or 14 days, and the loan period of AV-materials is 1 day. The latest issue of magazines and periodicals is not available for home loan. The library reserves the right to change the loan periods and set restrictions on the number of borrowed items.
Reading Room Loans
The materials of reference libraries can be browsed on the Information Centre, and rarities are only available for reading room use.
Requesting an Item
To request an item that has been loaned, the patron must fill out a loan request form. Requested items are charged as stated in the price list.
Loan and return
The information Centre is equipped with automatic check-out/check-in machines. The loans and returns must be checked on these self-service stations. It the patron returns items by mail, he/she will pay the postal fees.
Renewal of Loans
Loans can be renewed if no requests or other restrictions of use are placed on them. The patrons can renew their loans and review their personal details through KYMI database. The loans can also be renewed by phone, email or visiting the Information Centre. The maximum number of renewals is ten. If online renewal fails, the patron must contact the Information Centre customer service tietokeskus(at)merikeskusvellamo.fi.
Interlibrary Loans
The Information Centre provides its patrons with interlibrary loans of materials not available in its own collections. Correspondingly, other libraries can request loans and order reproductions of the materials in the collections of the Information Centre. Once the requested materials have arrived, they must be collected by the patron from the Information Centre. Also, the interlibrary loans must be returned to the Information Centre.
Interlibrary loans are charged as stated in the price list.

In Helsinki, the Maritime Museum of Finland provides interlibrary loans of the materials in its collections through the library of the Finnish National Board of Antiquities. These loans must be collected from the library of the Finnish National Board of Antiquities.
