Anni Laukan installaatioita 16.5.–19.10.2025

In the Shadows – We Still Dream | Installations by Anni Laukka, 16 May–19 October 2025

Anni Laukka is a visual artist from Kokkola who creates sculptures and installations using light and shadow. Her latest works examine the victims as well as the suffering caused by Russia’s war of aggression in Ukraine.

Laukka has made sculptures in collaboration with the charitable organization Malyn Volonter that has collected toys and nursery items from the Ukrainian cities of Malyn, Morozivka, Mykolaiv, and Borodyanka. At first glance, these object compositions may look abstract, but they take on a new meaning through shadows. The relationship between material and shadows leads the viewer's thoughts to the complex themes of war, life and death.

Some of the artworks are on display for the first time. Laukka draws ideas for her works from the world around her and the things that weigh on her mind. The works invite the viewer to reflect on the effects of war. Ukrainian children continue to live in the shadow of war, losing their loved ones, their homes and prerequisites for safety and health.
